KATHMANDU: Visiting Deputy Vice President of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), Jonathan Brooks, paid a courtesy call on Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun on Tuesday.

Brooks led a delegation to the Minister's office in Singha Durbar, Kathmandu. During the meeting, the Minister expressed the government's commitment to completing the MCC projects within the stipulated timeline. He conveyed optimism about the timely completion of the MCC projects.

Brooks sought updates on the progress of the construction of an electricity transmission line and roadways projects being implemented under the MCC. He expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far. Notably, a 315-km transmission line and a roadway project are slated for development within the next five years under the MCC Project.

Work is ongoing on the 400kV double circuit transmission line stretching from Butwal to Gorakhpur. Sub-stations are being built at Ratmate in Belkotgadhi Municipality of Nuwakot, Damauli in Tanahu, and Bhumahi in Nawalparasi East. This is considered the country's largest transmission line project to date, with 856 towers planned under the project.

Nepal and the US signed the MCC project in 2017. It was implemented following the endorsement of the parliament two years ago after extensive debate and discussion among high-ranking political leaders.
