KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has urged the Indian business community to consider investing in Nepal.
He made this appeal during his meeting with a delegation from the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) at the Taj Hotel in New Delhi on Monday.
The Prime Minister reached New Delhi on Sunday to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
Emphasising that Nepal offers a favourable climate for investment, especially in the tourism, energy, and agricultural sectors, Prime Minister Dahal encouraged the Indian community to explore investment opportunities in Nepal, as stated by the Prime Minister's Secretariat.
He pointed out that the recent third Investment Summit in Kathmandu has fostered a favourable climate for investment through comprehensive legal reforms, inviting them to explore opportunities with assurance.
PM Dahal recommended that it will be advantageous for potential investors to concentrate on Nepal's energy sector, considering that Nepal and India have already signed a power trade agreement to provide 10,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity from Nepal to India over the next 10 years. "Nepal's major hydropower projects are ready for investment."
On the occasion, FICCI President Anish Shah expressed their interest in Nepal's energy, tourism, and solar plant projects. He stated that Indian investors are closely observing the initiatives of Prime Minister Dahal to create an investment-friendly climate in Nepal.
