President Paudel, Swiss President Viola discuss Nepal-Swiss relations in Bern

KATHMANDU: President Ramchandra Paudel met with Swiss President Viola Emherd in Bern, Switzerland on Wednesday.

President Paudel is currently in Switzerland to attend as a keynote speaker in the inaugural session of the Forum of Global Coalition for Social Justice that is taking place during the high-level segment of the 112th International Labour Conference of the International Labour Organisation (ILO).

In his meeting with President Emherd, President Paudel emphasised that Nepal's current priority is to achieve economic prosperity, which is essential for sustaining democracy. He stated, "In 2026, Nepal will be graduating from a least developed country. This transition needs to be consistent, sustainable, and irreversible. To achieve this historic development goal, we require a significant amount of resources, technology, investment, and financial aid." This was reported by his press advisor, Kiran Pokharel, who is also part of the visiting delegation.

President Paudel expressed his appreciation for the Swiss government's support towards Nepal's economic and social development efforts since the 1950s. He mentioned that the Government of Nepal is eager to welcome Swiss investors to Nepal and is committed to providing the necessary facilitation in this regard.

He also sought investments in agriculture, tourism, and water resources for the social and economic transformation of Nepal.

On the occasion, Swiss President Emherd assured that Switzerland is always prepared to assist Nepal in its socio-economic development efforts, particularly in the areas identified as necessary by Nepal.

President Emherd also commended Nepal's constitution for its focus on federalism and inclusion. She noted that the large-scale development partnership between the two countries has completed 60 years and assured that it will continue to grow in the future.
