KATHMANDU: Nepal has exported handicraft items worth over Rs 3.26 billion in the past ten and a half months of the current fiscal year 2023/24.
The Federation of Handicraft Associations of Nepal (FHAN) has reported that felt items make up the largest share of these exports and imports.
Uttam Prasad Devkota, Director General of FHAN, stated that until May 28 of the current fiscal year, which started on July 17, 2023, Nepal exported felt items valued at over Rs 1.28 billion.
A variety of products, including those made from Allo (Himalayan nettle), bamboo, potay (glass beads), animal bones and horns, ceramic, Dhaka, metal, garments, paper, silk, silver, wood, wool, stone, plants, pashmina, and more, are exported from Nepal to several countries. These include India, China, the US, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Britain, Australia, and Singapore.
FHAN has noted a growing international demand for advanced handicrafts compared to traditional ones.
