KATHMANDU: The World Bank has appointed David Sislen as its Country Director for Nepal, Maldives, and Sri Lanka. Sislen will undertake the responsibilities of the country director for Maldives and Sri Lanka from the sub-regional office of the World Bank in Kathmandu.
At the welcome reception upon his arrival, Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun conveyed his confidence that Ssilen's term would be successful in continuing the efforts initiated during the tenure of the outgoing country director Faris Hadad-Zervos and in furthering cooperation.
Finance Minister Pun expressed his pleasure in welcoming Ssilen prior to the World Bank Group's International Development Association (IDA-21) meeting scheduled to be held in Kathmandu from June 18 to 21. He noted that the relationship between Nepal and the World Bank has been elevated during Faris's directorship.
Previously, Sislen served as the Practice Manager for Urban and Disaster Risk Management for Europe and Central Asia at the World Bank.
Sislen holds Master's degrees in Economics and Geography from Johns Hopkins University and Macalester College (USA) and has extensive experience in infrastructure, urban development, and decentralised service delivery across Europe, Latin America, Africa, and East Asia and the Pacific.
