Mechi Customs Office collects over Rs 12.93bn in revenue in 11 months of current FY

BHADRAPUR, JHAPA: Mechi Customs Office, Kakarbhitta in Jhapa district has collected revenue of over Rs 12.93 billion in 11 months of the current fiscal year 2023/24.

The customs office has collected 77.57% of revenue against the target with one month left for the end of the current fiscal year.

According to Public Information Officer Ganapati Kandel at the Mechi Customs Office, imports have decreased by 3.61% in the 11 months of the current fiscal year compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year, while exports have increased by 10.76%.

According to Kandel, goods worth Rs 40.79 billion were imported through Kakarbhitta's customs office while goods worth Rs 22.21 billion were exported.

He shared that the export of chhurpi (dried and hardened cheese) has increased by 65.29%, plywood by 56.33%, ginger by 35.45% and broom grass (amliso) by 31.34%. Cardamom exports declined by 2.61% and tea by 13.42%, he said. Similarly, imports of diesel, aviation fuel, vegetables, jute, gypsum, clothing and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) have decreased in the same period of the current fiscal year as compared to the 11 months of the previous fiscal year.

Petrol, diesel, jute and jute products, LPG, all kinds of vegetables, gypsum, resins, clothes and fruits (including juice) among others are imported through the Kakarbhitta border point.

Cardamom, iron sheets, plywood, tea, chhurpi, amliso, ginger, sweets, other metal residues, venous sheets, clinker and other materials were exported through this border point.
