KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has formed a committee to oversee the quality and standards of medicines and pharmaceutical industries.

Health Minister Pradip Yadav formed this committee through a ministerial-level decision. Dr Bikas Devkota, additional secretary at the Ministry, serves as the committee coordinator. The committee's responsibilities include monitoring medicine quality and assessing the operational status, service delivery, capacity, processes, and standards of pharmaceutical industries, pharmacies, and related agencies.

Dr Prakash Budhathoki, MoHP Spokesperson, mentioned that the committee will conduct on-site studies to evaluate medicine quality, identify associated issues, and address challenges. Within two weeks, the committee will submit its findings to the MoHP.

Committee members include Narayan Prasad Dhakal, Director-General of the Department of Drug Administration (DDA), as well as representatives from the National Drugs Laboratory, Pharmacy Council, District Administration Office (in the relevant district), and the DDA's district-based office chief.
