KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal highlighted universities' initiatives to understand the causes of brain drain among youth and create an environment encouraging them to stay in Nepal.

Addressing the 39th meeting of Purbanchal University Assembly, PM Dahal expressed concern about the growing trend of young people seeking opportunities abroad and stressed the need to reverse this trend. He instructed authorities to design curricula that cater to the preferences and priorities of 21st-century students.

In addition to curriculum changes, PM Dahal highlighted universities’ role in providing employment opportunities for students. He also called for alternative resource development to produce skilled professionals across various sectors.

The government is committed to resolving policy and legal challenges in coordination with local, provincial, and federal bodies. PM Dahal also urged universities to focus on micro-research, traditional knowledge preservation, and climate change mitigation.

Furthermore, he encouraged Purbanchal University to conduct research on local products such as black cardamom, tea, Rudraksha, herbal plants, jute, and fruits. The government remains dedicated to improving healthcare services by establishing a well-equipped hospital and a medical college in Gothgaun, Morang district, while exploring financial alternatives for this endeavour.
