14 killed in monsoon disasters across country; 3 goes missing

KATHMANDU: A total of 14 people have lost their lives to disasters triggered by incessant monsoon rain in different parts of the country since Friday night. Additionally, three persons remained missing in the incidents related to landslides, floods, and inundations. 

According to Dan Bahadur Karki, Central Police Spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General of Police, the number of persons injured in the natural disasters stood at 18.

Of the 14 casualties, one has been reported in Kathmandu, three from Syangja district, two in Parbat, one in Udayapur, two in Kavrepalanchok, one in Palpa, three in Tahanun and one in Dang. 

Manoj BK from Lakhan Thapa Rural Municipality-6 in Gorkha was killed in a landslide at Nagarjun Municipality-3 in Kathmandu. Other victims include Raj Rai from Rautamai Rural Municipality-5 in Udayapur, as well as Jalamaya Rujal Magar and Setimaya Rujal from Roshi Rural Municipality-11 in Kavrepalanchok.

Further casualties from landslides include Hira Nepal, Anisha Bastola, and Shyam Bhandari from Shuklagandaki Municipality-7 in Tanahun, along with Guweshori Sharma Marasini, Madhav Sharma, and Harimaya Sharma from Biruwa Rural Municipality-6 in Syangja, as reported by police.

In addition to the loss of life, landslides claimed the lives of Jhalak Prasad Sharma and Tulsi Prasad Sharma from Karkineta in Phalebas Municipality-1 of Parbat, Rima Saraha Ranamagar from Mathagadhi Rural Municipality-6 in Palpa, and Maniam Chaudhary from Bagrapur in Lamahi Municipality-8 of Dang.

Meanwhile, Jangmu Sherpa of Gaurishankar Rural Municipality-9 in Dolakha, Rajkumar Yadav of Rajpur Rural Municipality-2 in Dang, and Khem Kumari Mall of Jyamire in Bhirkot Municipality-5 of Syangja are among those still missing due to floods and landslides.

Police have said that torrential rains have significantly impacted life across the country, with major rivers — including the Koshi and Narayani —reaching warning levels. In response, security personnel from the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force have been mobilised in affected areas with heightened vigilance.
