KATHMANDU: The eighth edition of the South Asian Travel Awards (SATA) is scheduled to take place in Kathmandu on September 19-20.

Representatives from over 250 hotels, travel agencies, airlines, and media from six countries will attend the event.

Information to this was shared at a press meet organised in Kathmandu on Monday. During the awards ceremony, 44 accolades will be distributed across various categories. The event partners include The Malla Hotel and Aloft Kathmandu Thamel.

The awards will recognise excellence in hospitality within the South Asian region. Both Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and Hotel Association Nepal (HAN) are providing support for organising the event, which will also facilitate trade and entrepreneurship exchanges related to travel.

NTB Vice Chairman Ram Prasad Sapkota emphasised that SATA plays a significant role in promoting tourism and hospitality businesses. NTB Executive Chief Nandini Lahe Thapa welcomed the event, highlighting its potential to boost tourism development in Nepal.

HAN President Binayak Shah expressed confidence that the award handover programme in Nepal will contribute to the revival of tourism, which faced challenges in recent times.

Tek Bahadur Mahat, HAN's Chief Operating Officer, serves as one of the jury members from Nepal for the award selection process.
