KATHMANDU: One-way traffic has resumed on the Prithvi Highway as landslide debris has been partly removed from the road to allow vehicular movement.

Earlier, the traffic along the Prithvi Highway had come to a halt since this morning due to a landslide at Mauwakhola in Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality-3, Chitwan district.

Police Inspector Nirala Bhandari, at the Area Police Office in Muglin, reported that efforts are underway to ensure two-way traffic. The Road Division Office is currently using a dozer to clear the landslide debris. Despite continuous rain exacerbating the situation, the debris removal work continues.

While thousands of vehicles traverse this busy highway, the Traffic Police Office in Chitwan has reportedly been unable to record the exact number of affected vehicles. The ongoing rainy season, coinciding with road upgrades has led to frequent mudslides and disruptions on one of the country's major thoroughfares.
