KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, while seeking a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives (HoR) today, underscored the significant contribution of the CPN (Maoist Centre) to the formation of Nepal's Constitution. He asserted that the Maoists were committed to preserving the constitution and would actively thwart any attempts to undermine it.

PM Dahal acknowledged that the constitution was built upon the bedrock of a decade-long rebellion and subsequent movements championed by marginalised classes, regions, genders, and communities. It weathered critical moments with the support of the people, who took to the streets in its defence. PM Dahal expressed confidence that this constitutional legacy would endure in the days ahead.

PM Dahal, also the Chairman of CPN (Maoist Centre), faces his fifth vote of confidence within 18 months in the HoR. This move follows the withdrawal of the CPN (UML) from the government.

In a recent development, the Nepali Congress — the largest party in the HoR — and the CPN (UML) — the second-largest — forged an agreement on July 1, deciding to take turns leading the government.
