KATHMANDU: President Ramchandra Paudel will appoint the new Prime Minister today.

The process of appointment and swearing-in of the Prime Minister will take place after the deadline set by the President for the formation of the new government ends, said Kiran Pokharel, Press Advisor of the President.

Earlier on Friday, in accordance with Article 76 (2) of the Constitution, President Paudel had called upon political parties to submit their proposals for government leadership by 5:00 pm on Sunday. Responding promptly, KP Sharma Oli, Chairperson of the CPN (UML), submitted his claim for the prime minister's post on the same day, with the support of the Nepali Congress.

President Paudel will appoint the Prime Minister this evening after the set deadline.

However, due to time constraints, the official swearing-in ceremony for the prime minister and ministers will take place at 11:00 am on Monday, shared Press Advisor Pokharel.

This transition of power comes in the wake of incumbent Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal losing parliamentary support. The CPN-UML has chosen to break away from him, forging an alliance with the main opposition party, Nepali Congress, in the formation of the new government.
