KATHMANDU: The USAID roadshow, which kicked off in Lumbini Province two weeks ago, reached its finale on Monday in Kirtipur, Kathmandu district.
The roadshow organised by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) featured a captivating musical performance and a range of informative and entertaining activities to disseminate information about USAID-funded projects and programmes in Nepal over the past 63 years.
The roadshow journeyed through various towns, starting from Banganga in Kapilvastu district on July 3. Stops included Panga in Kirtipur, Butwal, Lamahi in Dang district, Kohalpur, Nepalgunj in Banke district, and Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu, as well as Jawalakhel in Lalitpur district.
At the Kirtipur event, a talented troupe of artistes — including Rima Bishwokarma, Rajan Raj Shiwakoti, and Mala Waiba — captivated audiences of all ages. Fun activities like 'spin the wheel,' 'ring toss,' and quizzes particularly engaged the youth.
Beyond entertainment, the roadshow aimed to sensitise the public about the enduring partnership between Nepal and the USAID. The agency has been a stalwart supporter of national and local projects across five key sectors: health, education, democracy, rights and governance, economic growth, and environment and resilience.
Notably, the USAID has contributed a substantial $1.5 billion (over Rs 196 billion) since 2000 to bolster Nepal's development. This support spans infrastructure, agriculture, women's empowerment, humanitarian aid, good governance, civil society, communication, and business development.
Over a million Nepali women directly benefited from health, education, and economic growth programmes, while approximately 5 million women indirectly gained from various initiatives in 2023. The grant assistance provided by the American people through the USAID has significantly contributed to Nepal's socio-economic transformation, further propelling the country toward prosperity.
