KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Bishnu Prasad Paudel, emphasised that economic challenges can be overcome through the establishment of a stable government.
Speaking at a meeting with representatives from the Nepal Bankers' Association (NBA), Minister Paudel expressed the government's determination to tackle issues across all sectors.
Finance Minister Paudel urged bankers to convey a positive message in the market, emphasising that the government remains committed to resolving the country's challenges. While acknowledging global economic context and internal factors as contributors to the slowdown, he identified political instability as the primary obstacle. Nevertheless, he assured the delegation that the current government stands strong and stable.
Minister Paudel highlighted the need to address public and private sector concerns — a major challenge faced by the nation. He also pledged custodianship to every sector and promised policy interventions as necessary for economic reforms.
The central bank is set to unveil a prudent monetary policy. Banks and financial institutions anticipate relaxed provisions in the new monetary policy. Minister Paudel expressed confidence in the autonomy of the Nepal Rastra Bank, assuring that rightful demands will be addressed.
Regarding payment of dues to construction entrepreneurs, Minister Paudel clarified that the issue differs from widespread perception and added that he would take a decision soon after studying the issue.
