KATHMANDU: Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) President Chandra Prasad Dhakal has urged Spain to increase investments in Nepal, citing the country's immense opportunities for investment.

In a meeting with Barcelona Chamber of Commerce President Josep Santacreu Bonjoch on Friday, at the FNCCI Secretariat, Dhakal emphasised the need to increase Spanish investment in Nepal.

FNCCI President Dhakal also highlighted the trade statistics between Nepal and Spain during the meeting, urging the President of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce to explore ways in which the two chambers could forge better collaboration for trade and investment. Dhakal mentioned that if the two chambers can establish better relations, it will help Nepal increase its exports to Spain.

Dhakal further informed Bonjoch that Nepal's gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate has been around 4% to 6% over the past decade. He added that, on the initiative of the FNCCI, the government had amended eight investment laws. He added that these reforms are designed to create an environment conducive to foreign investments and ensure the ease of doing business in Nepal.

Dhakal also informed the President of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce that there is ample opportunity for investment in all sectors in Nepal. He mentioned that Nepal's strategic location between India and China offers access to two of the world's largest markets, presenting unique opportunities for trade and investment. "We have open and liberal trade policies aimed at attracting foreign investment," he said.

During the meeting, Chandi Raj Dhakal, former President of the FNCCI, said that forging a partnership would be beneficial for both chambers.

Meanwhile, Josep Santacreu Bonjoch, President of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, stated that the two chambers of commerce could have better collaboration. He stated that he would take the initiative to develop a better partnership with the FNCCI.
