At BJP Chief Ministers' Council meet, Indian PM Modi discusses efforts to make India $5tn economy

NEW DELHI: India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Sunday that coordinated efforts between the central and state governments for public welfare will enable the achievement of a developed India, according to a press release.

During the two-day BJP Chief Ministers' Council meeting that concluded on Sunday, Modi emphasised the importance of heritage conservation and building a legacy of development for a developed India, urging continued attention to these areas.

As part of the BJP's good governance agenda, such Chief Ministers' Council meetings are held regularly. This was the second meeting this year. In this meeting, the Prime Minister discussed efforts to grow the country's economy to $5 trillion, increase public participation in development programmes, and utilise various social media platforms to extend the reach of government schemes.

The meeting was attended by national leaders, including the party's national president Jagat Prakash Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, and others.

During his inaugural address on Saturday, Nadda said, "Through these meetings, we achieve three distinct outcomes. Firstly, we benefit from the vast experience of our successful Prime Minister and other senior leaders. Secondly, we exchange experiences and gain new information or assessments. Thirdly, our desire to improve becomes stronger."

In the meeting, Indian Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan discussed the role of state governments in implementing the new education policy and outlined the expectations from state governments, which were discussed in detail. At the beginning of the council, innovative and good governance-centric efforts from BJP-ruled states were presented.

Notable presentations included Uttar Pradesh's rural secretariat scheme, Assam government's special campaign for quick recruitment to government vacancies, Gujarat's efforts to boost solar energy production, Tripura's 'Amar Sarkar' programme, and Bihar government's efforts to prevent illegal mining. Special projects from Maharashtra and Haryana were also discussed.
