KATHMANDU: Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) President Chandra Prasad Dhakal has emphasised the importance of strengthening bilateral trade relations between Nepal and Thailand, citing the long-standing relationship between the two nations.

During a meeting at the FNCCI Secretariat on Monday with Suchira Panchana, Minister Counsellor (Commercial) and Director of the Thai Trade Centre in New Delhi, Dhakal highlighted the long-standing friendship and cooperation between Nepal and Thailand. He noted that the trade volume between the two countries has been steadily increasing, reaching approximately $15 million in 2023, reflecting significant potential and opportunities for both nations.

Dhakal identified several areas for enhanced cooperation, emphasising Nepal's wealth of high-quality agricultural products such as tea, coffee, and herbs. He suggested that leveraging Thailand's advanced food processing technology could make these products more competitive in the global market. Additionally, Dhakal proposed that Nepal and Thailand could attract more tourists by developing joint marketing campaigns and tourism packages, capitalising on the unique and diverse attractions of both countries.

In response, Suchira Panchana announced plans for the Thai Trade Centre to organise a trade fair and seminar in Nepal next year, expressing her expectation of FNCCI's cooperation in these initiatives.
