ILAM: A total of 59 irrigation projects were constructed in Ilam district during the fiscal year 2023/24, with an investment of Rs 348.7 million.
These projects, completed under the Small Irrigation Programme, have benefitted over 2,100 households. Farmers across the district are delighted with the new irrigation facilities, which have significantly improved their farmlands.
According to Keshav Lama, Chief of the Small Irrigation Programme, ten small irrigation projects were completed in Suryodaya Municipality, nine in Ilam Municipality, eight in Mangsebung Rural Municipality, and seven in Mai Municipality.
Asman Yonghang from Gajurmukhi village in Mangsebung expressed relief that their dependency on rainwater has ended with the construction of Pakrumba canal, constructed with an investment of around Rs 4 million.
Similarly, an irrigation project in Lapsibote village, Maijogmai Rural Municipality, was completed with an investment of Rs 5 million, directly benefiting 58 households.
These projects were developed through a partnership involving the federal, provincial, and local governments, as well as the Swiss government.
