KATHMANDU: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Dipak Khadka, and World Bank Director for Nepal, Maldives, and Sri Lanka, David Sislen, held a meeting on Thursday.
During the meeting at the Energy Minister's office in Singha Durbar, Kathmandu, discussions focused on the World Bank's support for Nepal's energy and irrigation sectors, among other issues.
Minister Khadka emphasised the government's commitment to collaborating with the private sector and donor agencies for the development of the energy sector. He highlighted the need for the World Bank's support in constructing transmission lines necessary for selling power in the international market.
He shared that the government aims to produce 28,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity in 10 years and stressed the importance of the World Bank's support to achieve this goal. Minister Khadka expressed confidence that the construction of the Upper Arun Hydropower Project, supported by the World Bank, would be completed soon.
World Bank Country Director Sislen assured continued support and cooperation from the World Bank in developing Nepal's energy and irrigation sectors. He noted that efforts are underway to complete the Upper Arun Hydropower Project and that the World Bank would prioritise energy and irrigation projects.
