KATHMANDU: Foodmandu, Nepal's premier and most popular food delivery company, has unveiled the best-selling vegetarian items from its partner restaurants in Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Chitwan for the month of Shrawan. This period, the fourth month in the Nepali calendar, is significant for Hindus who observe a strict vegetarian diet and abstain from non-vegetarian foods and alcohol as part of their devotion to Lord Shiva.

Shrawan is a time for spiritual reflection and inner peace. Many devotees break their fasts with vegetarian dishes like Kheer (rice pudding) and various vegetable curries, especially on Shrawan 15. Ayurveda suggests that immunity is at its lowest during Shrawan, making light, vegetarian foods ideal for detoxifying the digestive system and combating water-borne illnesses common during the monsoon season.

The Vishnu Purana recounts that the Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean) occurred in Shrawan, resulting in the emergence of 14 types of rubies. Lord Shiva consumed the Halahal (poison) that emerged, turning his throat blue and earning him the name 'Neelkantha'. To mitigate the poison's effects, he wore the crescent moon on his head and was offered Ganges water by the gods.

Devotees observe fasts, particularly on Mondays, and engage in rituals to honour Lord Shiva. Women of all ages participate, chanting mantras and recounting tales of Shiva's deeds.

Foodmandu offers a variety of vegetarian delights, including Tip Top's famous samosa and jalebi, Annapurna Sweets’ chhole bhature and desi ghee jalebi, Moti Mahal Delux's paneer butter masala with butter naan, Avata Wellness's Buddha bowl, and Sangam Sweets' veg momo. These offerings allow customers to enjoy flavourful vegetarian meals while honouring the spiritual essence of Shrawan.

Foodmandu remains committed to delivering a diverse range of meals, catering to vegetarian, non-vegetarian, and vegan preferences, ensuring that everyone can maintain their dietary and spiritual commitments during this holy month.
