NTB hosts tourism photography orientation for students

KATHMANDU: Sustainable Tourism for Livelihood Recovery Project (STLRP), jointly run by Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), organised a tourism photography orientation programme in Kathmandu, on Wednesday.

The one-day event, held in collaboration with the Tourism Research and Training Institute (TRTI) affiliated with the Global Travel and Tourism Partnership (GTTP), aimed to raise public awareness about tourism and tourism photography. It also sought to impart theoretical and practical knowledge to students of the National Sustainable Tourism Club.

Seventy students from ten schools in the Kathmandu Valley participated in the programme, which took place at the NTB in Bhrikutimandap.

Madhusudan Thapa, founder of the National School of Photography (NSP) and senior photojournalist, presented photography's theoretical and practical aspects. NTB's Media Consultant, TP Bhusal, provided an orientation on Nepal's tourism, its importance, the role of students in tourism promotion, and the ethics of photography.

Pradeep Kumar Shrestha, executive member of the National Forum of Photojournalists (NFPJ Nepal) and photo journalist, gave an orientation on camera and mobile photography.

GTTP Country Manager and TRTI President, Madan Kumar Baral, informed attendees that TRTI has established the Sustainable Tourism Club in 70 schools across various districts and is conducting public awareness programmes on tourism-related issues among school children.

TRTI Programme Director, Saroj Prasad Pokharel, and Programme Coordinator, Laxmi Prasad Budhathoki, emphasised the importance of photography in tourism. They stated that the programme aimed to provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge about tourism and to aid in promoting tourism infrastructure.

STLRP, in collaboration with TRTI, continues to support establishing and expanding the Sustainable Tourism Club across the country.
