KATHMANDU: European Union (EU) Ambassador to Nepal, Veronique Lorenzo, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at his office in Singha Durbar, Kathmandu, on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Oli expressed his appreciation for the EU's cooperation in Nepal's economic and social development. He informed Ambassador Lorenzo that the remaining work of the peace process, particularly regarding transitional justice, would be finalised based on political agreement.

He mentioned that the bill to amend the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons (CIEDP) and the Truth and Reconciliation Act, 2071 BS, is progressing, keeping the spirit of the Comprehensive Peace Accord (CPA), the Supreme Court's order, international practices, and the concerns of survivors at its core.

Reflecting on the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nepal and the EU, Prime Minister Oli highlighted the anticipated support from development partners as Nepal aims to graduate to developing country status by 2026 and to become a middle-income country by 2030. He reiterated Nepal's active efforts towards poverty alleviation and economic development, while remaining fully committed to democracy and human rights.

Ambassador Lorenzo wished for the success of the government's priorities and objectives and extended her best wishes to Prime Minister Oli for a successful term in office.
