A A- A+
KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has wished happiness, peace and prosperity to all Nepalis living abroad and at home on the occasion of Sita Jayanti. In a message today, President Bhandari extended her best wishes on the occasion of emergence of Sita, daughter of King Janak and luminary of Nepal. Sita Jayanti, also the day Sita came into being, is observed on the day that falls on the ninth day of the waxing moon in the month of Baisakh according to the lunar calendar. The day is observed with the worship of Sita and singing bhajans in her glory at all Ram and Sita temples across the country including Janakpur, centre of the ancient Mithila kingdom. Sita, who is also known as Janaki, Vaidehi and Janakanandini, is believed to possess incredible strength and wealth of knowledge. She was married off to Lord Ram, believed to be the 10th incarnation of Lord Vishnu in Hindu Mythology. President Bhandari, in her message, stated that it was a matter of pride for Nepal and Nepalis that Sita, an epitome of an ideal woman, belongs to Nepal. Bhandari expressed her confidence that this day would inspire all to end all kinds of gender, social and cultural prejudices and disparity, and encourage to build a progressive, civilised and well-cultured society. Sita is believed to originate in the farmland when Mithila's King Janak performed yajna and ploughed the land in ‘Treta Yug’ as per Valmiki Ramayana. By RSS READ ALSO:
