DAMAULI, TANAHUN: At least 14 people died when a bus with Indian registration number plunged into Marsyangdi River in Aanbukhaireni Rural Municipality-2 of Tanahun district today. Sixteen passengers were rescued.
The bus (UP 53 FT 7623) was en route from Pokhara to Kathmandu when it veered off the road and plunged into the river at Aina Pahara along the Prithvi Highway.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Deepak Kumar Raya, stationed at the Tanahun District Police Office, confirmed that Indian passengers were onboard the bus during the accident. However, the precise passenger count remains uncertain. It is believed that approximately 40 Indian nationals were travelling on the bus.
A 10-member team of divers from the Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal was mobilised to the incident site, diligently working to rescue the remaining passengers. APF Joint Spokesperson, DSP Shailendra Thapa, reported that the rescued passengers were taken to the hospital. Meanwhile, the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, and APF teams have continued their efforts in the ongoing rescue operation.
