NEPSE declines 79.88 points, closes at 2,894.57

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) grappled with a substantial downturn today, as the NEPSE index plummeted by 79.88 points, equivalent to 2.68%. The index settled at 2,894.57, reflecting a challenging trading session for investors.

Trading activity remained robust, with a total of 42,686,640 shares changing hands among 333 companies — an impressive 218,578 times. The cumulative turnover reached an impressive Rs 19,740,593,800.64.

The Microfinance sector defied the prevailing trend, posting a positive growth of 1.08%. However, all other sub-indices experienced declines. The Investment sector surged by 3.83%, while the Banking sector and Finance sector rose by 3.31% and 3.50%, respectively. Other sectors also saw gains, with a 3.55% increase collectively.
Likewise, the Development Bank sector faced a decline of 2.44%, while Hotel & Tourism dipped by 2.38%. Hydroelectricity, Life Insurance, Manufacturing & Processing, Mutual Funds, and Non-Life Insurance followed suit with varying decreases. The Business sector, too, experienced a downturn of 1.76%.

Amidst this volatility, several companies managed to hit the positive circuit. Wean Nepal Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (WNLB), Upakar Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (ULBSL), and Aatmanirbhar Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (ANLB) were among the top gainers.

However, Mandakini Hydropower Limited (MHL) and the 10.25% KBL Debenture 2086 (KBLD86) faced significant declines, with their share prices dropping by 9.91% and 9.09% respectively. Api Power Company Ltd (API) witnessed substantial trading volume, as 2,278,787 shares valued at Rs 846,817,000 changed hands today.
