COLOMBO: Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, handed over the initial payment for Hybrid Power Projects aimed at addressing energy needs on Delft, Nainativu, and Analaitivu islands.

The Indian Embassy in Sri Lanka stated that Jha presented the payment to Sulakshana Jayawardena, Secretary of the Ministry of Power and Energy and Chairperson of the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA).

The project aims to cater to the energy requirements of the three islands, which are not connected to the national grid. India is providing an assistance grant of $11 million for this initiative.

On August 23, Jha visited Sri Lanka's Eastern Province, where he met Governor Senthil Thondaman and State Minister of Trade and Environment, S Viyalendiran.
During this visit, they discussed various planned and ongoing projects in the Province under India's assistance.

Additionally, on August 22, Jha engaged with representatives from the Batticaloa District Chamber of Commerce and the Batticaloa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, advising them on avenues to enhance business-to-business engagement with India.

Furthermore, on August 21, Jha reviewed the progress of the Tri-lingual Multi-ethnic School being constructed at Polonnaruwa. This school is part of a High Impact Community Development Project supported by Indian grant assistance. Finally, on August 20, Jha distributed solar lanterns to beneficiaries of houses built with Indian grant assistance in Pitakanda, Rattotta Estate, reaffirming India's commitment to improving the community in the plantation regions.
