MORANG: Minister for Health and Population, Pradip Paudel, has announced an expansion of health insurance coverage, raising it to Rs 500,000. This commitment was made during a ceremony held in Biratnagar to commemorate the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Koshi Hospital Biratnagar and Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital.
Under the agreement, Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital will extend its services to Koshi Hospital. Minister Paudel emphasised that citizens' health should not be compromised, and health facilities must remain accessible, free, and of high quality. He directed Koshi Hospital management to adhere to rules, standards, and policies set forth by the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), emphasising that healthcare is a top priority for citizens.
Ministry Secretary Roshan Pokhrel encouraged hospital self-sufficiency rather than relying solely on government support. Meanwhile, Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital's Director, Ujjwal Chalise, and Koshi Hospital's Medical Superintendent, Rabin Raj Singh, signed the MoU, outlining Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital's commitment to providing oncology services within a month, supported by six to 10 specialists. Koshi Hospital has been offering cancer care since 2015.
