At 26th AGM of SEJON, Finance Minister urges private sector to focus on contributing

KATHMANDU: The Society of Economic Journalists – Nepal (SEJON) held its 26th annual general meeting (AGM) today. 

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel was the chief guest at the AGM.

In his address, Finance Minister Paudel remarked that the private sector should not always have grievances. He noted that the external sector of the economy is currently strong, and the private sector should focus on contributing rather than complaining.

Minister Paudel also mentioned that the government has always been open with the private sector and has been attentive to its suggestions. He urged the private sector to provide more constructive feedback. He further stated that the current government aims to provide political and policy stability, ending the trend of frequent governmental changes.

Meanwhile, Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari expressed optimism about the economy's direction in the current fiscal year. He highlighted positive economic indicators and state initiatives, citing the NADA Auto Show as a sign of economic progress. He emphasised that this year's flexible monetary policy is crucial for boosting private sector morale.

On the occasion, Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) President Chandra Prasad Dhakal urged the government to amend the Bank and Financial Institutions Act (BAFIA). Similarly, Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) President Rajesh Kumar Agrawal requested a reduction in taxes.

Biswas Regmi, General Secretary of SEJON, presented the General Secretary’s Report, highlighting SEJON's activities over the past year. Achyut Puri, Treasurer of SEJON, presented the Financial Report for the past year during the AGM.
