KATHMANDU: The construction of the Chilime-Trishuli 220kV transmission line is in its final phase. This transmission line is crucial for integrating electricity generated from both ongoing and future hydroelectric projects along the Trishuli River corridor and its tributaries into the national grid.

The final phase involves constructing the 28-kilometre transmission line from the Chilime Hub Substation at Thambuchet in Aamachhodingmo Rural Municipality, Rasuwa, to the Trishuli Three B Hub Substation at Pahirebensi in Kispang Rural Municipality, Nuwakot district.

Efforts are underway to complete the construction and operationalise the transmission line before the Dashain festival.

The construction of the 220/132/33 kV Chilime Hub and Trishuli Three B Hub substations under the Chilime-Trishuli 220 kV Transmission Line Project has been completed. Seventy-five of the 76 towers have been constructed, and work on the remaining tower is in its final stage.

Only five kilometres of power cable installation remain out of the total 28-kilometre transmission line. Two hundred workers are engaged in installing the tower and power cables.

A high-level team from the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), including Executive Director Kul Man Ghising and Deputy Executive Director of the Transmission Directorate, Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha, conducted a field-level monitoring of the construction on Saturday. The team has set a deadline to complete the construction well before the Dashain festival (12 October 2024).

The NEA team held discussions with the project management, consultant, and contractor company, urging them to avoid any delays, expedite construction by adding workers, and follow a timetable to complete the remaining work within the deadline.

The team also inspected the site where work is ongoing to install the last remaining tower and power cables.

The electricity produced from the 110MW Rasuwagadhi and 42.5MW Sanjen hydroelectric projects, developed by Chilime Hydroelectricity Company, a subsidiary of NEA, will be fed into this transmission line.

Both projects have been completed and are in the production phase. The NEA is under pressure to complete the transmission line construction as soon as possible due to this reason.
