French embassy honours Nepali Paralympic medallist Palesha Goverdhan

KATHMANDU: The French Embassy in Nepal honoured Nepali athlete Palesha Goverdhan at a ceremony in Kathmandu on Tuesday. Goverdhan, Nepal's first Paralympic medallist, was celebrated for her bronze medal win in the women's 57kg category of Para taekwondo at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games.

The French Embassy described the occasion as a proud moment for Nepal and a significant milestone in the nation's sporting history. The event saw the attendance of Minister for Youth and Sports, Teju Lal Chaudhary, alongside sports representatives and business leaders.

French Ambassador Virginie Corteval congratulated Goverdhan, praising her as a beacon of hope and determination. "Palesha, you are a beacon of hope and determination. Your journey reflects the audacity to dream and conquer challenges. You have revealed the immense talent of Nepali athletes to the world," she remarked.

The ceremony also introduced the Choose France/Marque France initiative, aimed at fostering collaboration in business, culture, and education between France and other countries, including Nepal. Goverdhan’s achievement was highlighted as embodying the spirit of perseverance, cooperation, and excellence that both nations strive to promote.

Additionally, the Embassy announced the Choose France Tour, set for September 28, 2024 at the Alliance Française. This event will provide Nepali students with the opportunity to learn about studying in France and meet representatives from over 15 prestigious French educational institutions.
