TTDC to host ‘Thamel Nakhah’ Festival for 44th World Tourism Day

KATHMANDU: Thamel Tourism Development Council (TTDC) has announced the ‘Thamel Nakhah’ festival to mark the 44th World Tourism Day 2024.

Scheduled for September 27, 2024, this event will commemorate the 44th anniversary of World Tourism Day, transforming the streets of Thamel into a vibrant carnival of culture, music, art, and cuisine.

During a press meet held on Thursday, organisers provided a preview of the vibrant experiences awaiting both tourists and locals. With seven unique experiential zones spread across Thamel, visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in an extraordinary showcase of culture, cuisine, and music, making Thamel Nakhah a day to remember.

Thamel Nakhah, a unique cultural carnival designed to embody the spirit of Thamel and its status as a dynamic hub for tourism, will offer a diverse array of experiences that celebrate Nepal’s cultural heritage while embracing modern influences. 

The event aims to bring together locals and travellers in a lively atmosphere of celebration.

Event Highlights:

  • Cultural Festival: A celebration of traditional and contemporary dance, music, and drama, showcasing Nepal’s rich cultural heritage.
  • Kantipur Art: Art exhibitions and live art installations by local artists, capturing the essence of Thamel and Kathmandu’s artistic flair.
  • A Sky Full of Kites: The skies of Thamel will come alive with a breathtaking display of kites, symbolising freedom and creativity.
  • Seven Wonders of Taste: A culinary journey through the best flavours of Thamel, featuring both local and international cuisine.
  • Titans of Muay Thai: A thrilling showcase of martial arts, with Muay Thai athletes demonstrating their skills in the heart of Thamel.
  • Musical Dabu: A live music stage featuring some of Nepal’s top musical acts, blending traditional sounds with contemporary beats.
  • Tat’s UP!: A unique experience for tattoo enthusiasts, highlighting the artistry of local tattoo artists and the body art culture in Thamel.
