KATHMANDU: Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security, Sharat Singh Bhandari, held a bilateral meeting with Japan's Minister for Health, Labour and Welfare, Keizo Takemi, during his official visit to Japan.

The ministers discussed the implementation of the labour agreement signed between Nepal and Japan in 2019. Kaviraj Upreti, Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry, who was part of the visiting delegation, stated that the delegation decided to proceed with further studies in the relevant areas.

Additionally, the ministers agreed to prepare for cooperation through a bilateral agreement on social security. Minister Bhandari announced that the procedure for sending Nepali workers to Japan has been approved and implemented. He explained that once a licensed organisation is listed with the Department of Foreign Employment and the Nepali Embassy in Tokyo verifies the demand letter, the process for Nepali workers to go to Japan will commence.

Minister Takemi welcomed Nepal's 'Special Skilled Workers' (SSW) procedure and expressed eagerness for new cooperation in the labour sector.
