Dhading Jhyaplekhola Landslide: 35 bodies retrieved, more expected to be found

MALEKHU, DHADING: Twenty-one bodies have been retrieved today from the debris of a landslide at Jhyaplekhola in Dhunibesi Municipality-9, Dhading district.

A rescue team, mobilised since this morning, recovered the bodies of 17 males and four females. This brings the total number of bodies retrieved to 35. Until Saturday night, 14 bodies had been found, according to Police Inspector and Information Officer Prahlad Silwal at Dhading District Police Office.

A bus (Na 4 Kha 2270) and a Hiace (Ba 2 Kha 1345) were discovered under the landslide debris today. On Saturday, a microbus (Lu 1 Jha 4578) was found in the landslide-hit area. The number of vehicles buried by the landslide may increase, police said.

The bodies have been sent to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) for post-mortem examinations, according to Silwal.

The Naubise-Nagdhunga area along the Tribhuvan Highway has remained disrupted by landslides and debris flow since Friday evening.
