KATHMANDU: Domestic airlines in Nepal will refrain from selling tickets at maximum prices for the next three days following public outcry over exorbitant fares during ongoing natural disasters.

The Airlines Operators Association of Nepal (AOAN) made this decision during a meeting on Sunday in response to the backlash. AOAN President Manoj Karki announced that domestic airlines would offer air tickets at concessional rates on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

The AOAN has also requested the government to consider discounts on aviation fuel, airport taxes, landing, and parking charges. Karki assured that such measures would enable the AOAN to further reduce airfares.

Previously, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli urged airlines via social media to sell tickets at discounted prices or maintain pre-disaster rates. The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) also appealed to domestic airlines to avoid inflating ticket prices during the disaster, according to CAAN Information Officer Gyanendra Bhul.
