KATHMANDU: Recent floods and landslides triggered by incessant rains have obstructed five sections of various highways. According to Nepal Police, while over four dozen road sections have been cleared, five remain impassable.
Eight additional road sections have been opened for one-way traffic. Deputy Inspector General Dan Bahadur Karki, central spokesperson for Nepal Police, stated that efforts are ongoing to clear the remaining obstructions.
The Charshayabesi section of BP Highway at Roshi in Kavrepalanchowk has been closed since September 27. Other completely blocked sections include Bhakure on the same highway, Seleghat in Manthali Municipality-6, Ramechhap-Sindhuli-Khurkot of Bhotekoshi, Barhabise-Tatopani road of Bhotekoshi, and the Baluwatar section of Jaya Prithvi Highway in Bajhang.
One-way traffic has been resumed on the Lele-Tikabhairab road in Godavari, Tinghare section of the Mid-Hill Highway in Tehrathum, Ramite section of Mechi Highway at Panthar Phidim, and Kanti Lokpath in Bhimphedi. Additionally, Kaldhunga section of BP Highway at Roshi, Ghumaune, Hanumangadhi Keraghari section, and the Benighat Krishnabhir section of Prithvi Highway have also been opened for one-way traffic.
The disaster has resulted in 246 fatalities, with 18 people still missing.
