BIRGUNJ, PARSA: Motorcycle imports via the Birgunj customs point have surged by 76.86% in the first two months of the current fiscal year 2024/25 compared to the same period last year.
Deepak Lamichhane, Chief Administrator at Birgunj Customs Office, said this increase contrasts with a decline in the import of four-wheeler vehicles through the same customs point during this period.
A total of 16,384 motorcycles worth Rs 2.07 billion were imported by September 16 of the current fiscal year, compared to 9,264 motorcycles worth Rs 1.13 billion during the same period last fiscal year.
Additionally, spare parts for 1,661,531 motorcycles, including mopeds worth Rs 341.72 million, were imported during the review period, a significant increase from 1,265,627 motorcycles’ spare parts worth Rs 23.9 million imported by September 17 of the last fiscal year.
