Tourism department approves IEE for Rara Resort construction

KATHMANDU: The Department of Tourism (DoT) under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) has approved the Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) for the construction of Rara Resort at Murma Top in Chhayanath Rara Municipality-9, Mugu district.

During the Third Investment Summit, Rara Holdings of Nepal and the Expert Group of Australia signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the construction of a resort near Rara Lake. The DoT approved the IEE report, submitted in accordance with the Environment Protection Act, 2019 (2076), and the Environment Protection Regulation, 2077.

The Rara Resort will feature 62 rooms and 98 beds across 19 buildings. With the IEE approval, the construction process has begun. The DoT stated that an IEE self-evaluation must be submitted every six months. The first phase will involve an investment of Rs 700 million in the luxury resort, to be built on 80 Ropani of land at Murma Top.

Abhishek Bikram Shah of Rara Holdings stated that the resort will be environmentally friendly, reflect local culture, and be constructed in a Nepali style, maximising the use of local resources and materials. He added that construction will be expedited with the laying of the official foundation stone soon.
