KATHMANDU: Nepal-India Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NICCI) has elected Sunil KC as its president for the next two years. KC, a prominent figure in the energy sector, is the Managing Director of Singati Hydro Energy.
At the 30th annual general meeting of NICCI held on September 25, KC was elected alongside a team of nine other members, including Batu Lamichhane, Kunal Kayal, Anil Kumar Shah, Karan Chaudhary, Sashi Kanta Agrawal, Siddhartha Majumdar, Ravi Kumar Rayavaram, Kiran Malla and Ramesh Sharma.
In accordance with NICCI's charter, President KC appointed Rajan Sharma, Uttam Lama and Arun KC as additional members.
KC is also an advisor to the Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal and a member of the think tank at the Nepal Intermodal Transport Development Board.
As NICCI president, KC has pledged to strengthen Nepal-India business relations and attract Indian investment in key sectors such as energy, tourism, cross-border digital payments, and manufacturing. He envisions organising a Nepal-India Investment Summit every two years and establishing a Nepal Innovation Centre in India to support startups.
Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Deepak Khadka, speaking at the AGM, emphasised the crucial role of NICCI in attracting Indian investment in Nepal's energy sector. He highlighted the recent energy deal between Nepal and India to trade 10,000 MW of hydropower within 10 years and stressed the need for NICCI's support in facilitating Indian investment and technical expertise for Nepal's energy development.
During the AGM, Shreejana Rana, Immediate Past President of NICCI, highlighted the role played by NICCI in fostering Nepal-India trade and investment relations. She emphasised NICCI's efforts in facilitating bilateral trade, promoting investment opportunities, and addressing trade-related challenges between the two countries. Rana also acknowledged the significant contributions of NICCI members in strengthening economic cooperation and building bridges between the business communities of Nepal and India.
