KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs, Arzu Rana Deuba, has stated that all issues faced by the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) should be addressed according to the law.
During a discussion with NRNA activists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on Wednesday, Minister Rana emphasised that the ministry does not intervene in NRNA affairs but always acts as a facilitator.
Expressing displeasure over recent criticism of the NRNA, she urged all concerned to move forward with unity, as differences of opinion within the NRNA were hampering its potential to work in the country's interest.
On the occasion, NRNA founding president Upendra Mahato said that unity is achievable if everyone relinquishes their stubbornness. Former President Sesh Ghale highlighted issues faced by non-resident Nepalis (NRNs), including the inability to enjoy benefits despite holding NRN citizenship and difficulties in repatriating investments from Nepali companies.
Ghale also mentioned that it is natural and democratic for various groups to seek legal recourse for their grievances. Speaking at the event, NRNA President Badri KC welcomed the Foreign Minister's initiative to invite NRNA office-bearers for discussions to find solutions.
Former NRNA president Bhawan Bhatt and other activists, including Kul Acharya, Binod Kunwar, and Janaki Gurung, also participated in the discussion.
Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal, Joint Secretary Amrit Rai, Laxman Khanal, and Pushkar Nepal were among others present at the meeting.
