KATHMANDU: Nawaraj Kunwar, immediate past president of the Federation of Computer Association Nepal (CAN Federation), has been re-elected as Vice Chairman of Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organization (ASOCIO).
Kunwar was re-elected for the 2024-26 tenure during ASOCIO's annual general meeting (AGM) and convention held recently in Japan.
Previously, Kunwar represented CAN Federation and served as Vice Chairman of ASOCIO from 2022, having held the role of Co-opt Vice Chairman in 2020-22. Upon being re-elected, Kunwar stated that his efforts to establish Nepal in the international forum have gained renewed energy.
He remarked, "I am striving to establish Nepal in the international IT sector. By creating a robust technology system in Asian countries through ASOCIO, Nepal can secure a place in the global ICT sector, opening new opportunities for innovation, growth, and international aid. I also believe it will help bridge the gap between developing and underdeveloped countries in Asia."
Representatives from ICT technology organisations in Nepal, Thailand, Korea, Hong Kong, Myanmar, and Japan have been elected as vice chairpersons under the leadership of Chairman Ong Chin Seong, representing PIKOM, Malaysia, in the new executive committee.
CAN Federation President Ranjeet Kumar Poddar congratulated Kunwar for being re-elected to the post and expressed confidence that his efforts will significantly promote Nepal's digital economy. "We believe that Kunwar's representation in ASOCIO will support CAN Federation's efforts to create a prosperous Nepal through ICT and access to evolving technology and the digital economy," said President Poddar.
Similarly, CAN Federation Secretary General Chiranjibi Adhikari mentioned that under Kunwar's leadership, Nepal has gained recognition in the international technology arena and anticipated further achievements in the coming term. "Nepal's strong presence in international organisations like ASOCIO has provided an opportunity to enhance cooperation with Asian and Oceanian countries in the field of technology. I am confident that Nepal will greatly benefit from this," Adhikari said.
CAN Federation is also affiliated with various other international organisations. Recently, CAN Federation President Poddar was unanimously elected Treasurer for the World Innovation, Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA), a consortium of tech associations from 80 countries and economies.
