KATHMANDU: Discussions have been held to ensure the Finance Committee of the House of Representatives operates in an effective and result-oriented manner.
Committee President Santosh Chalise stated that today's meeting focused on preparing the work schedule and increasing members' participation. He added that the meeting discussed finalising the bills currently under the Committee's consideration as soon as possible, as well as making its other activities more effective and increasing members' attendance at meetings.
"There is a problem with parliamentary committee meetings not meeting the required quorum. The laws do not allow discussions or decisions to be made without a quorum. The Speaker has also expressed concern over this issue. Discussions have also been held on informing the chief whip and whip of all parties when convening committee meetings to enhance members' participation," Chalise said.
Lawmaker Surya Bahadur Thapa Chhetri suggested preparing a timetable and strictly enforcing it to make the parliamentary committees' work more effective.
Lawmaker Juli Kumari Mahato (Mahaseth) said that the relevant ministries should be called to the committee's meetings to provide updates on the implementation of the current fiscal year's budget.
Five bills are currently under the Finance Committee's consideration.
