KATHMANDU: Sahisna Bista has achieved a historic milestone by winning the bronze medal in the 49 kg division at the World Amateur Jiu-Jitsu Championship in the GI category, held at Zayed Sports Center in Abu Dhabi, Capital of the United Arab Emirates. This accomplishment makes her the first Nepali adult to secure a medal on the international stage in jiu-jitsu.
Bista's journey to the bronze medal included a submission win, an 11-0 points domination, a loss due to an unfortunate disqualification, and a comeback with another 11-0 points domination to clinch the bronze.
Bista has been training rigorously for the past four months under the mentorship of Professor Mauricio Gomez Oquendo at Rage Fitness Naxal.
Her athletic journey began with notable achievements in other combat sports. She competed in the Ganeshman National Kickboxing Championship and won gold at the Novice National Boxing tournament in 2079 B.S. Despite an accident temporarily interrupting her sports career, she made a strong return to training, focusing on GI jiu-jitsu at Rage Fitness Naxal. Recognising her potential, her coaches supported her intensive preparation for this championship, ultimately leading to this significant international success.
