JUMLA: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has announced that Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (KAHS) will be run more effectively to provide quality education and health services.

Addressing the KAHS First Convocation Ceremony in Jumla today, PM Oli, who is also the Chancellor of KAHS, expressed his happiness that the people of Karnali have started receiving quality health services locally.

"The process of constructing a 100-bed hospital at Rakam Karnali has already been initiated," he said. The Prime Minister expressed the government's commitment to providing additional services and facilities at KAHS.

Stating that he has been involved since the conceptualisation of KAHS, he expressed pleasure that the institute has reached the milestone of holding its first convocation. He recalled that he had the Medical Education Commission approve the running of medical classes at KAHS during his previous tenure as Prime Minister, despite challenges.

"This success has been achieved today due to the investment, hope, and confidence of guardians, and as a result of your efforts and dedication. I am confident that the students graduating from KAHS will set new records and achieve success in every field. Utilise your success to provide quality health services to the needy people in remote areas," Oli, the Prime Minister and KAHS Chancellor, exhorted the graduates on the occasion.

He added, "I want to express my happiness that Karnali is moving ahead. This is an opportunity to fulfil the dream of providing healthcare services to the people of the 13 districts of Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces, once considered impossible. It is now the responsibility of us all to operate this institution more effectively."

Kirsten Meisinger, Director of the Center for Primary Care and System Strengthening at Harvard Medical School, was the Chief Guest at the Convocation Ceremony, where 58 students completing Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Public Health, Nursing, and Medical Science graduated, according to KAHS Administrative Officer Amrit Bahadur Bhandari.

Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Paudel and Vice Chairman of the Medical Education Commission Prof Dr Anjani Kumar Jha, among other officials, also attended the ceremony.
