KATHMANDU: National Human Rights Commission - Nepal (NHRCN) has stated that the contributions made by the late former Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Daman Nath Dhungana, to the protection of civil rights will be remembered in history.
In a press statement issued today, NHRCN spokesperson Tikaram Pokharel expressed grief over the death of former Speaker Dhungana and highlighted the immense value of his contributions.
"The demise of Dhungana is an irreparable loss to Nepal's democratic movement, law, and human rights. The country has lost an invaluable asset," the statement read. It also mentioned Dhungana's significant role in the promulgation of the Constitution of Nepal, 2047, defence of parliamentary dignity, law enforcement, the peace process, and the protection of human rights.
Recalling Dhungana's work with the NHRCN in promoting and protecting human rights, the NHRCN expressed heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family.
