KATHMANDU: Department of Passports has temporarily closed passport services at district administration offices and missions abroad to mitigate the risk posed by a virus detected in some computers related to the application system.

In a statement, the department indicated that services are being gradually resumed, which may take up to a fortnight to be fully operational.

While passport services have partially resumed, the department expects to open bookings for new application forms within one or two days.

The department has urged service seekers to remain patient, assuring them that due care has been taken to address the security concerns and that applicants' data remains completely safe. Additionally, essential services are being gradually reinstated.

The department apologised for any inconvenience caused and is taking all necessary steps to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
