MAHENDRANAGAR, DHANUSHA: Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has suggested that grants, rather than loans, should be taken under China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Former Prime Minister Deuba made this statement while unveiling the statue of democratic movement leader Arvind Thakur in Lohana, Janakpurdham Sub-metropolitan City-23, Dhanusha District, and speaking to mediapersons at Janakpurdham airport today.

Deuba stated that it is not advisable to take a loan under the BRI, but a grant would be appropriate at present.

He mentioned that since China is a good friend of Nepal, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's upcoming visit to China will help to further strengthen the bilateral relationship.

On a different note, Deuba said that the Nepali Congress alone cannot change the leadership of the Madhesh government, and there is a need for discussion within the coalition. NC President Deuba emphasised that the Congress should move forward unitedly.
