KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has reaffirmed the government's commitment to a broader concept of social security.
In a message of best wishes on the occasion of the 7th Social Security Day, PM Oli stated that the government is actively working to implement the social security scheme systematically. "There is no condition in the country where citizens feel unprotected or without guardians. For the welfare of citizens, there are the State and the government," PM Oli emphasised.
The Prime Minister argued that social justice and dignity are prioritised by the government in its journey towards prosperity. The government has demonstrated its dedication to its people, ensuring that no one is left helpless.
According to him, social security has been enshrined as a fundamental right of citizens in the constitution. "As per the broader concept of social security, the government is preparing an action plan, programmes, and budget, and enforcing these accordingly," PM Oli clarified.
He also recalled that it was the government led by CPN UML that launched social security in 2051 BS, providing monthly allowances to senior citizens, single women, and helpless people. The social security concept has now materialised into a welfare state where social justice and equality prevail.
"In our journey to the present state, we have understood social security as an integral part of social life, the State, and social engineering," PM Oli remarked, adding that a contribution-based social security scheme was recently launched, recognising the individual's role in social security.
