KAVREPALANCHOK: Asian Development Bank (ADB) will assist in the reconstruction of the Kavre Valley Integrated Water Supply Scheme (KVIWSS), which was damaged by floods and landslides triggered by incessant rains on September 27 and 28.
The scheme aims to improve water supply to the three historic cities in the Kavrepalanchok district: Banepa, Panauti, and Dhulikhel.
The ADB's commitment to support KVIWSS was confirmed during a discussion on Monday between ADB officials, including its Country Director for Nepal, Arnaud Cauchois, and a team from KVIWSS, led by Board Chairman and Dhulikhel Municipality Mayor, Ashok Byanju.
The floods and landslides devastated the water supply project, which was in its final phase of completion. Following the meeting with ADB officials, Mayor Byanju stated that the ADB has pledged to assist in reconstructing the water supply scheme.
According to Byanju, the ADB has committed to preparing a detailed project report and providing financial assistance for the reconstruction.
Mayor Byanju highlighted that the natural disaster caused significant damage to the water supply infrastructure, including the project's intake, water tank, and distribution mains and branch pipes, amounting to Rs 218 million in damages.
Launched in 2012, KVIWSS aims to address drinking water supply problems in Dhulikhel, Banepa, and Panauti. The project, which is expected to be completed in 2024, is projected to benefit 140,000 residents with round-the-clock water supply in their homes.
The total estimated project cost is Rs 990.8 million, excluding VAT.
