KATHMANDU: Nepal Premier League (NPL), a franchise-based T20 cricket tournament, will commence at Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground, Kirtipur, on Saturday.
The NPL is organised under the aegis of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), the official governing body of cricket in the country.
Janakpur Bolts will face Biratnagar Kings in the inaugural match, which is scheduled to begin at 12:15 pm at the TU cricket ground.
A total of eight teams, including Lumbini Lions, Janakpur Bolts, Kathmandu Gurkhas, Pokhara Avengers, Chitwan Rhinos, Biratnagar Kings, Karnali Yaks, and Sudurpashchim Royals, will participate in the tournament.
Last Monday, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli unveiled the NPL trophy at the Dharahara complex in Sundhara, Kathmandu, in the presence of all eight team captains.
Popular sports channel 'Star Sports' will broadcast the tournament live from the cricket ground, featuring renowned foreign cricket commentators.
According to tournament rules, a team can include up to four foreign players for each match and have up to six foreign players in their squad.
All teams have accordingly hired foreign cricketers, including well-known players such as Shikhar Dhawan of India, Jimmy Neesham and Martin Guptill of New Zealand, Mohsin Khan of Pakistan, Brandon McMullen of Scotland, Tom Moores of England, Marchant de Lange of South Africa, and Raymon Reifer of the West Indies.
